Jon MacDonald
PhD student | University of Saskatchewan | Landscape 3
Jon MacDonald is a PhD student with the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan. He received his Bachelor of Environmental Studies and Earth Science (Honours) from Lakehead University and later returned to complete a Horticulture Diploma through University of Guelph and a Master in Regenerative Sustainability through University of Saskatchewan. Registered as a professional hydrogeologist in Alberta, he comes to the team with 15 years of consulting experience at contaminated sites in Alberta. As part of the Landscape 3 team and under the supervision of Dr. Baulch and Dr. Loring, Jon’s research is focused on understanding production changes in the Canadian Prairies and how decisions are made by actors in this sector as they navigate mounting social and ecological pressures. Targeting the conservation of threatened habitats in the Prairie region such as wetlands and grasslands, and regenerative agricultural practices that can help restore these habitats is a critical area of social-ecological relationships that we look to uncover by understanding the friction and traction points actors face when making decisions that affect these areas. When not working on his research, Jon enjoys spending time outside with his family, woodworking, baking, and lawn bowling.
