MSc Student | Simon Fraser University | Landscape 5
Carmen Richter is a current MSc student in the Biology program at UBCO. Carmen is from Moberly Lake B.C. and is of Saulteau and Cree ancestry from Saulteau First Nations. As a mother and community member, she is passionate about the resilience and protection of our indigenous way of life. Carmen graduated from UBCO with an BSc in Biology in 2010. Since then, she has worked within her nation building a native seed bank and an indigenous guardian program. She is also part of a team that has helped avoid the extirpation of caribou herd in her territory. While studying at UBCO she plans to focus efforts on lichen abundance and restoration within the caribou homelands of NE BC. The caribou project has led to many great opportunities such as establishing the 3rd largest park in BC. She is honored to initiate meaningful research that makes a difference locally.
