Jean-François Guay (PhD) is a research professor at Institut des sciences de l’environnement (UQAM) and geomatic analyst for the Québec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Nutrition. He is a geographer and environmental science specialist whom sphere of competences focuses on operational research aimed at organizations facing issues in terms of hierarchization and explicitness of their planning decisions in a context of ecological, social, economic and social proximity. He developed core expertise
in this area, using soft systems analysis, multicriteria decision making aid and spatial modeling. The SOMERSET-P approach is transferable within organizations exposed to such issues. It allows the systemic generation of local knowledge and its integration, via various GIS modelling protocols and analysis algorithms, in spatial decision support procedure aiming at decision-making in highly complex, often conflicting and / or controversial environment.
