Matt Carlson is an ecologist interested in applying a systems dynamics approach to develop pragmatic solutions to natural resource management challenges. He is a founding partner at the ALCES Group, a leader in the application of scenario analysis to assess the cumulative effects of land use. His integrative research explores the consequences of overlapping land uses (forestry, energy, mining, agricultural, and urban development), natural disturbances, and climate change on environmental and socioeconomic indicators. As a consultant for governments, First Nations, and conservation organizations, Mr. Carlson’s work has informed planning initiatives across Canada, from the municipal to provincial scale.
