Michèle Grenier
Masters Student | Simon Fraser University | Landscape 6
Michèle Grenier (she/her/elle) is currently a master's student working under the supervision of Dr. Anne Salomon in the Coastal Marine Ecology and Conservation (CMEC) Lab at Simon Fraser University. She completed a Bachelor of Sciences in Natural and Managed Environments at Laval University in 2021, specializing in forestry, biology, and land management. Michèle is interested in place-based research that explores the connections and interactions between people and coastal ecosystems. For her MA research, she is working in partnership with coastal First Nations to address social-ecological challenges related to the recovery of the sea otter along the coast of British Columbia. She is interested in combining Indigenous knowledge, field experiments, and ecological modeling to inform Indigenous-led management of this keystone predator. This work has the potential to support Indigenous environmental governance and food sovereignty by expanding our understanding of sea otter’s behavioral response to human interactions.
