NICKLAUS KEMP
Research Assistant | Simon Fraser University | Landscape 6
Nicklaus Kemp is currently an undergraduate student working under the supervision of Dr. Anne Salomon in the Coastal Marine Ecology and Conservation (CMEC) Lab at Simon Fraser University. He is motivated by his interest in marine ecosystems, community-based research, and diverse knowledge systems to help solve complex social-ecological problems. Kemp’s undergraduate honours research investigates the spatial variation of clam growth rates on the West Coast of Vancouver Island (Kyuquot Sound/Checleseht Bay Ecological Reserve, Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’ / Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations Territory). This research intends to use a combination of field studies with ecological modelling to support Indigenous resource governance and food sovereignty. He hopes to do this by expanding records of clam growth rates, while considering the influence of sea otter occupation time on clam growth along British Columbia’s coast. |
