Sebastien Theis
Postdoctoral researcher | University of Toronto | Theme 3
I am a conservation biologist specializing in restoration ecology, fisheries management, and offsetting policy. I earned my BSc from the University of Greifswald and pursued my MSc at Humboldt University of Berlin. I completed my PhD at the University of Alberta, focussing on evaluating global biodiversity offset systems and enhancing restoration practices in northern boreal lakes through structural enrichment and hydro-acoustic surveys.
In my recent post-doctoral fellowship, I focused on assessing fish community changes and restoration monitoring data for the Toronto waterfront, as part of multi-decade efforts to delist The Toronto and Region as an Areas of Concern. As a member of Resnet, my role will involve synthesizing key findings from Theme 3 on biodiversity and ecosystem service guidelines and metrics based on the amazing work accomplished by the team over the past few years. I am deeply passionate about producing scientific research that directly influences real-world conservation efforts and policies as well as leveraging existing information and data through synthesis and meta-analyses both for scientific and public contexts. |
